Domestic producers report that European buyers have shown an increase in demand for Azobe (also known as African rosewood or African pinapeg) logs and sawn timber. And because Okan wood is currently being mixed with Azobe wood, it has also led to a rebound in demand for Okan, which has driven up the price of Okan wood and caused it to rise again at the end of the month.

After the rainy season, the red soil roads in the southern region (including the Okonja-Makuku highway) are under repair. August and September are the middle of the dry season, with temperatures dropping and transportation conditions improving. Producers report that container supplies are adequate and port operations are normal, but some producers report that the port charges for timber have increased. Since January this year, each bundle of sawn timber must carry GPS data related to its logs and be inspected at the Owendo Port before shipment.

According to the presidential decree, the enforcement efforts have been strengthened. By the end of the year, all concession holders must submit reports on the aerial surveys of their areas conducted using satellite images by government agencies. Forestry officials have begun using drones to monitor logging activities.

Cameroon has been severely affected by floods, which has hindered timber transportation and brought numerous difficulties to local communities. Nevertheless, export activities remain at a moderate level.

The supply of rosewood remains stable and sufficient. The trading volumes of ayous wood and sapeli wood are normal. Since the beginning of August, the prices of these tree species have not shown significant changes. It is reported that due to the cessation of operations by several Chinese operators, the activities of sawmills in Cameroon have slowed down. The transportation of wood to the port is proceeding normally, and the supply of containers is sufficient. It is claimed that the port operations are stable and there are no major disruptions reported.

The severe floods in the surrounding areas of Brazzaville and in Kinshasa on the other side of the river have put pressure on infrastructure and caused delays in timber transportation. The presidential election has increased commercial uncertainty, but producers say that the prices of most tree species remain stable, and currently there is an adequate supply with the logging volume remaining at a moderate level.

Ghana

After successfully completing the verification process of the Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) with the European Union, Ghana has begun to export timber under the new EU framework.

The Ghana Forestry Commission has issued the first six certificates to five Ghanaian companies, allowing them to export wood products to the EU under the Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) licensing system. Additionally, the President of Ghana announced that, under the revised "Ghana Investment Promotion Centre Act" (GIPC), the Ghanaian government will eliminate the minimum capital requirement for foreign investors. This statement aims to attract investors from the Asia-Pacific region and strengthen trade and investment ties with Ghana in the areas of industrialization, agricultural processing, and export.
