Iroko (Milicia excelsa), also widely known as African Teak, is one of the most popular tropical hardwoods on the global timber market. Though it is not real teak, it delivers nearly matching outdoor durability and stability at a much better price, making it the top cost-saving substitute for genuine teak for importers, furniture makers and marine builders.
The heartwood of Iroko shows beautiful golden-brown colour, which gradually deepens into a rich warm brown after exposure to air. It is naturally resistant to rot, fungi and termites, classified as Class 2 durability under EN 350. No chemical preservatives are required for most exterior projects. It features low shrinkage and great dimensional stability, so it stays straight even under big temperature and humidity changes, ideal for coastal, wet or hot climates.
