Entering 2026, the climate conditions in the Republic of the Congo became more stable, and the working environment in the forest areas improved. However, due to the weak demand from China and the continuous downturn in the European market, the overall production still faces upward pressure.
The main commercial tree species in the northern region are still dominated by sandalwood, ayous, green-leaved acacia, African rosewood, red ironwood, and Augustan.
According to industry feedback, the current inventory of logs in sawmills is expected to be sufficient to meet the production demand for two to three months. However, given the weak export market demand and uncertain prospects, manufacturers generally adopt conservative production capacity strategies.

Due to the sluggish demand from the Chinese market, the pace of upstream logging has slowed down. At the same time, sawmills are accelerating the transfer of their delivery channels to the European market. This trend is similar to the previous risk of supply surplus faced by the castor bean variety.
It is reported that the demand for Okuman in the Philippine market has shown a contraction trend; the demand for Talai, African Rosewood and Nutmeg in the Vietnamese market remains active. The demand for Okuman sawn timber in the Middle East has remained sluggish. The overall demand in the European market is limited, and operators maintain a cautious assessment of the risk of oversupply for some timber species.

The operators reported that the forestry management department is currently operating in an orderly manner, implementing strict supervision over forest operations and export processes. The Republic of the Congo continues to fulfill its obligations under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), and the timber exports to the EU must comply with the requirements of the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR).
Regarding transportation conditions, with the reduction in rainfall and the continuous maintenance of red soil roads, the situation in Likouala is improving. Timber in this region is increasingly transported by container through the Kribi Port in Cameroon, while logs continue to be transported through Douala Port. However, although the production conditions in the core production areas are gradually recovering, the logistics bottlenecks caused by long-distance transportation remain a key challenge constraining the efficiency of the supply chain.
