Ozigo is a Central African timber valued for its practical role in plywood production and interior applications. Known botanically as Dacryodes buettneri, the species is found mainly in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, with a more limited range in neighbouring Central African countries. For buyers comparing tropical hardwoods, Ozigo offers a light appearance, useful workability and a range of sawn-timber applications.

The heartwood ranges from pale yellow-white to light yellow-brown, sometimes with a beige, grey or pinkish cast. Its appearance can resemble Okoume at a glance, though Ozigo may look greyer. The grain is often straight, but interlocked grain is also common. Texture is generally even in appearance, with variation from piece to piece and between cuts.
Air-dry density is commonly around 0.59–0.65 g/cm³ at approximately 12% moisture content, though actual values vary with the timber and test conditions. Ozigo is relatively light to medium in weight and is generally straightforward to saw and machine. Silica in the wood can dull cutting edges more quickly, so sharp, suitable tooling is helpful for consistent production.
Plywood is one of Ozigo’s established uses. The timber is also sawn for interior joinery, furniture parts, mouldings, flooring, stairs, wall panelling, boxes and packaging. Its colour works well where a light or understated wood tone is preferred. As with any species, the best use depends on the grade, dimensions, drying condition and finish required by the manufacturer.

Ozigo is best considered for interior or otherwise protected applications. Technical references describe its natural durability against fungi as limited and note susceptibility to insects. Buyers planning a particular end use should discuss service conditions, drying, storage and any treatment requirements with their processor before production.
With 17 years in the African timber trade, SENHEDA WOOD works with timber buyers in international markets. Our photographs show Ozigo sawn timber in bundled form. We can discuss a lot against the buyer’s requested thickness, width, length, grade, quantity and destination, then confirm the available specifications and packing details before an order is placed.
Gabon has restrictions on exporting unprocessed logs, and the permitted product form and documentation should be confirmed for each transaction. For this reason, buyers should state their destination market and required product form when requesting an offer. Export requirements can change and must be checked against current regulations.
To enquire, send your required dimensions, quality, volume and destination port. Our team can review the request and advise what can be offered from the available Ozigo stock.
