In the last three months, the ratio has completely reversed. More and more importers from Pakistan, the Dominican Republic, and Egypt are opening with:
“Is your Tiama and Sapelli grade consistent?”
“Have all your shipments passed FAS?”
This is not an isolated case. The market is sending a clear signal: the procurement logic for African hardwoods is shifting from “price first” to “quality first”.

Reliable supplies of high-quality Tiama, Okoume, Padouk logs and lumber are shrinking. The old game of “buy cheap in large volume” no longer works – because there simply aren’t that many cheap logs available.
Many importers once chose cheaper, ambiguous-grade or unstable-moisture wood to save a couple of points. What happened?
The “savings” from low prices turned into returns, claims, and lost clients. Unstable quality is the biggest cost of all.
Whether it’s furniture brands in Pakistan or construction contractors in Egypt, they are becoming more knowledgeable about wood. They check grade certificates, spot-check moisture content, and trace origin. If you as an importer cannot deliver consistent quality, your downstream customers will replace you without hesitation.
We have our own mills and long-term concession partnerships in Congo and Gabon. Every log of Tiama, Okoume, Sapelli, Kossipo is initially graded when it enters our mill. Our inspection team records diameter, length, and surface defects according to FAS standards.
Each container has a unique batch number linked to the specific harvest area, processing time, and inspection records. If a customer needs it, we can provide the batch’s scaling sheet and grade distribution report.
We don’t use marketing slogans like “unconditional compensation for late delivery” – there are too many force majeure events in international trade. But we are willing to clearly specify in the contract: how grade discrepancies will be handled (discount, replacement, or return rights), a negotiation mechanism for shipment deadlines, and the dispute resolution process. Over 17 years of deep cultivation in this industry, our old customers have kept growing, and our export volume has kept expanding – this number was not shouted out, but earned step by step with solid work.
Reputable suppliers don’t play the “lowest bidder” game. We focus our energy on long term partners who are willing to pay a fair price for stable quality.
