According to reports from Gabon, as the main supplier of oak logs for Agumann has resumed operations, the raw material bottleneck at the rotary cutting plant in the Enko Special Economic Zone is expected to be alleviated. However, due to the financial pressure caused by the measures of the special working group, the relationships among the operators, subcontractors and exporters remain tense.

It is reported that the Gabon forestry special task force continues to impose strict restrictions on enterprises that have outstanding taxes and social security fees. However, most enterprises have now been relieved of these restrictions after paying 40% of the estimated arrears.
However, international demand remains sluggish: European winter inventories are high, and purchases only meet the rigid demand gap; the demand in China remains at a low level, especially affected by the excessive inventory at ports and the current situation in the domestic real estate industry, furniture manufacturing industry, and other sectors.

It is worth noting that as of January 1, 2026, the export tax in Gabon will increase by 3.9 percentage points to 12.5%, which means that the export costs of sawn timber and processed products will rise accordingly. As a result, Gabon's price competitiveness is likely to be weakened significantly at that time.
Regarding the Chinese market, since this year, the Chinese timber market has maintained a situation of "high inventory and weak demand" for most of the time. In this market environment, importers' ability to bear price increases is relatively limited. Given this, Gabon's timber exporters may have to bear part of the cost pressure on their own.

Meanwhile, based on the current market situation, the scenario of "reduced supply and stable prices" is highly likely. Even if supply decreases, the weak demand and high inventory will counteract the upward price trend, so price increases are unlikely to persist. Additionally, if the export prices of Gabon's timber increase, it is highly probable that Chinese timber purchasers will adjust their purchasing strategies and instead seek more cost-effective and price-advantaged timber sources such as Cameroon, South Africa, the Central African Republic, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
